The UMBC Summer Day Camp has a plethora of weekly programs and activities aimed at delivering both fun and learning opportunities for kids.
Week 1 – Decades Week – June 8th – 12th
Campers will take a trip through time during Decades Week. Explore the culture, fashion, music, and art that defined the 60’s, 70’s, 80’, 90’s/2000’s, and the 2010’s! Each day highlights a new decade with hands-on activities, themed games, and music from the time period. Make sure to dress to impress in your decade’s best! *Options for 3-day, 4-day, and 5-day
Week 2 – Space Week – June 15th – 19th (Closed Friday, June 19th for Juneteenth)
Blast off into an out-of-this-world adventure! Campers will explore the wonders of outer space and the excitement of science fiction through themed games, creative crafts, and imaginative group challenges. From astronaut training courses to galaxy art projects, each day encourages teamwork, creativity, and big imaginations. * Closed June 19th for Juneteenth
Week 3 – Under the Big Top – June 22nd – 26th
Come one, come all! Campers will participate in carnival games where everyone’s a winner! This week features giant board games, Fresh Hot Popcorn, and carnival games. Campers will also have an opportunity to show off their silly side by participating in Wacky Tacky Day.
Week 4 – Holiday Week – June 29th – July 3rd (Closed Friday, July 3rd for Independence Day)
From winter fun to red- white- and blue, join us for holiday week, where campers will get the chance to speed run the holidays. Highlights of the week include spooky costumes, winter holiday fun, and a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt. To end the week dawn your red, white, and blue to celebrate the 4th of July! *Closed July 3rd for Independence Day
Week 5 – World Cup Week – July 6th – 10th
Campers will travel the globe during World Cup Week, where sports and culture come together for an exciting international adventure! Each day, campers will explore different countries through fun games, challenges, and creative activities, from mini soccer tournaments to country-inspired crafts. Campers will celebrate the spirit of friendly competition while learning about cultures from around the world!
Week 6 – At the Beach – July 13th – 17th
Time to soak up some sun! This week will feature a Hawaiian shirt day, sponge relays, and a camp-wide water balloon toss competition. Campers can participate in tie-dyeing their camp shirt during arts and crafts and a pool party! featuring music, snow cones, and slip and slides. Throughout the week campers will play various water games.
Week 7 – Science and Conservation – July 20th – 24th
Explore science and conservation all week long through interactive experiments, educational sessions, and nature walks. Campers will also enjoy building with Legos and an egg drop competition. Get ready to get your hands dirty with Cup o’ Dirt at snack on Friday!
Week 8 – Game Show Week – July 27th – July 31st
Hello, and welcome to the first annual UMBC Summer Day Camp Game Show! Get ready for lights, buzzers, and big fun! During the week, campers will compete in exciting, age-appropriate game show–style challenges that test teamwork, creativity, and quick thinking. With Trivia, obstacle course challenges, and Minute to Win It, each day will feature games inspired by classic and modern game shows.
Week 9 – Color Wars – Aug 3rd – 7th
The most anticipated week of the summer! Campers split into two teams, black and gold, and go head-to-head for the coveted color wars champion trophy! Each day, campers and counselors will participate in competitive, recreational, and intellectual games. While this week is competitive, counselors and staff place strong emphasis on good sportsmanship, fair play, and, above all, respect for others.
